Hyundai doesn't have a "maintenance minder" where the car tells you it needs an oil change based on driving conditions and such??
We have one vehicle that gets its oil changed every 12-15k, and another one that just got its first oil change at 21k. Its quite clear, by todays standards, that changing your oil every 6k is much too soon.
Oil changes every 6k?? You go Hyundai, YOU GO!!!
There's an elaborate maintenance schedule printed on the back of the manual. Goes up to 200k. Tells you everything that needs to be checked or replace. Pretty diy friendly

My buddy picked up a new Elantra a few months ago.
He told me he has to bring it in every 6k for oil changes, like we used to do with our cars from the stone ages.

Your friend is mistaken - My wife's Santa Fe tells her when to go for an oil change, in at around 12k.
Maybe your friends model doesn't have the feature but he does not need to do an oil change every 6k, the little stupid sticker they put on may say so but it is bullshit.
Once I took my old car to MR lub to do an oil change, at the end they put the sticker on my car saying to come back after 5k, i alsked the guy, why 5k if today's oils can go for at least 12, he said it was policy and he didn't agree with it but had to do it
Last time I ever went to MR Lub

I had a similarly disappointing experience with Honda!
I bought a 2013 CB500F and I love this bike to death .. until the kick plates and most of the metal on the lower half of the bike started corroding ....
I went to the dealership and was treated like someone with a disease that nobody had heard of! They told me that they have never seen anything lie (I mean like) this before and that I would have to contact Honda Canada main office. Calling them was like calling Rogers, transfer here and there ... possibly transferring you to the "opps we cut you off and hung up on you" express line ... and after talking to them they told me that this kind of thing is not a warrenty claim and if I wanted something 'cosmetic' fixed that I could pay for it myself! I didn't know using substandard parts that corrode was cosmetic ... like this recall they had for
"the bolts retaining the rocker arm shaft may have received proper anti-corrosion treatment. Instead, the bolts were treated with a non-approved coating that can cause the bolt to loosen during operation" ... substandard coating .. humm sounds like they used that same coating everywhere on the bike ... but .. you know .. this is a one off thing!!!!
That just appears to be corrosion from galvanizing. Nothing to be alarmed about

Yup! It looks like you have been bitten by the salt, the aluminum has been pitted, you can polish, powder coat, anodize it...or replace them if it bothers you that much!

Those are steel parts on that bike and the coating is going for a crap from exposure. Take them off and repaint them or just ride and don't worry about it

SO here's an update a year and two months later...
After completing their test that took 6-8 return visits every 1000-1500 km i was told to wait to hear back from Honda Canada. I waited and waited. Called a few times and nothing. Honda told me to call the dealership, dealership never returned my calls and when i got a hold of the manager in person i was told to call Honda. Fast forward to about a month ago i stopped by the dealership once again to see what was going on. This time the manager told me that honda gave the go ahead and that my car will be getting a software update, new pistons and rings and i'll get it back in 2, 3 days max. I dropped off the car a week ago, this is the current state it's in a week later. Was supposed to be ready last thursday, which turned into friday, then saturday, then monday, and here we are on tuesday...
Apparently they can't get the new pistons on
Should be getting my car back this week, but this story doesn't end there. Now my car has an airbag recall that causes "metal shrapnel" to come blasting at you in the event that the airbag ever deploys. No need to worry however, parts should be available at the END OF THE f_ _ _ _n YEAR!

I don't want to rub it in but seems like I'm getting better service with a Hyundai. My dealer just sent me a letter to do a recall on my traction control system

I got a hyundai a couple times as a rental car, and honestly my previous car a 12 year old honda with almost 300k ran better than those brand new rental hyundais.
