An Ontario politician has resumed the fight for a helmet exemption for members of the Sikh faith.
MPP Jagmeet Singh (NDP rep from Bramalea Gore) is backing a bill for Sikhs who regularly wear the turbans (called a Dastaar) required by their religion. The legislation would exempt them from wearing motorcycle helmets. BC and Manitoba already exempt Sikh riders from helmet laws
This isn’t Singh’s first try. Back in 2013, he introduced a similar bill; Premier Kathleen Wynne shot it down in 2014. This time around, the NDP and PC parties are both supporting the move. First reading of the bill has already carried — read it here.
Meh.. I'd repeal helmet laws period. We're all adults and can make our own decisions. With that being said, I'd still wear my bucket every time I got on the bike but I support other adults' right to be adults and deal with the consequences of their decisions. That might make me unpopular in the bubblewrap capital of the world, though.
When I went to indy for motogp we rode from the track to downtown without lids. It was a weird feeling and now that I've tried it I don't think I'd ever do it again. That was on city streets too at slow speeds. Seeing the folks on the highways there without them made me shake my head. That said if they do it for one they have to do it for everyone. This won't ever happen here.

I would normally agree with you but I really don't mind the helmet law. Have you ever been to Kennedy Commons on a Wednesday night? I ve seen adults do some stupid things. Some people are not good at making these kinds of decisions
If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing. -Malcolm X
