I'm not surprised that they did it, just surprised that they got caught.
People are making a big deal out of this but personally this emission crap is a fraud to begin with and the manufacturers just tried to get around it....
It's all a bunch of bullshit. They all do it. If this was GM wouldn't be an issue.
how u figure? Gm just got burned for faulty ignition switches.
They KILLED 190 people. They then hid the fact they KNEW about their issue for 10 years. What happened? $83 million fine, and life goes on.
Emissions don't meet EPA california standards? well, Billions then! Because we care so much about the environment, we'll just ignore all the other 80% of pollutants (factories, large machinery, 18-wheelers) that are a much bigger problem but harder to control.
"There's never enough time to do it right, but there's always enough time to do it twice."
Hyundai and Kia just last year were fined for selling 1 million cars that weren't at the emissions standards. No media coverage and a chicken shit fine. I smell bs....
IMHO the emmissions tests are to say the least simply not worth the paper they are written on. I have been doing or having done, a fair amount of work on my car knowing my Etest is due in Oct. So I had, (due to codes and terrible running car), had O2 sensor changed, as well as a couple fo cramshaft position sensors. I also KNEW my Cat wasn't working properly and there may a leak somewhere. So Long story short after several days of having no codes I took car in for Etest. It passed, (MUCH to my amazement). Three days later car was in shop, (as I knew I needed to replace exhaust manifold and cat as they are one piece and I knew the cat was dead. Mechanic showed me the parts, Cat was COMPLETLY plugged, and exhaust manifold was cracked almost completely, (crack ran about 80% around it). Yet the car STILL paased etest with all that going on? It was different shops that did the work, and I watched them do the etest from start to finish, no funny business.
The drive clean has been a scam since day one. No question. I was trained om it when it first came out. I've seen a Honda civic run the dyno as four different vehicles all with v8s and pass. That right there tells you....
