As great as that all is for entertainment value and revenge seeking, wouldn't it have been better to just let it go?

I know I know, hear me out.
Option 1) Call the cops, provide description and let them chase the guy down with their tazers and sirens. Get new bike from insurance.
Option 2) Call the cops, thief crashes and smashes bike anyway, gets tazered. You get new bike from insurance.
Option 3) Don't call cops, you chase bike, damage property and other cars along the way, get back smashed bike.

Only option 1 and 2 leave you with a new bike. To me new bike > smashed bike.
