That's probably the best idea. The only reason the touring pedals suck off road is if you bail they're the first things to break next to the rear derailleur
At one point I had my tt, two roads, hardtail, full suspension, bmx, a fixie and the cross. I also still have another road bike in a box that's never been put together. Scandal aside it's the same bike Armstrong won the 7th tour on. I'm still never parting with it and when I'm settled and have a man cave it's going on the wall.

What's your intrigue with pushing your own weight? That's why motorcycles were invented
If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing. -Malcolm X

There's something about it. It's very hard to explain to people. When I started it was simply a way to cross train in the summer and I wasn't given a choice. After about 5 rides I loved it. Once I started racing it got even better. Jump to 2010 and I bought my mountain bike and it was like being a kid all over again. I think it's all around more work to mountain ride than road but you definitely pedal less. You should try it. Tons of fun. As for road you'd either love it or hate it and with the amount of morons that are allowed to operate motorized vehicles here, it can be a little intimidating unless you get away from the cities.

I do it recreationally to exercise, that's it
