Many, many years ago I was working in Montreal and saw a couple of art prints I really wanted. I couldn't afford them but went and looked at them almost every day.
One day they were gone. I asked the vendor who bought them and he told me some older guy had bought them the day before.
Christmas Eve they were under the tree. My Mom had bought them and made the vendor lie to me so I wouldn't suspect her.
This is the same woman who, in her 60s, went into Trenchtown to buy me original Island pressings of Bob Marley albums.
