There is no other answer for another 4 years or so, stuck with the Liberals.
I've somewhat starting looking into transferring to Calgary, as I'd love to live just an hour from the mountains, but I'm not sure I'd like their crazy and unpredictable weather.
And other than Calgary, there is really nowhere else in this country I could see moving to. B.C. is too damn expensive because I'd be mostly tied to the GVA, no way in hell I'd move to Winterpeg, the East has bugger all for work, high taxes, and bad weather. So for me the choice is GTA or Calgary.
I've looked at going West. Calgary was at the top of the list. I feel Vancouver is like trading in your Ford for a Chevy after being in the GTA.
More and more of the people I know are going down south. The ones that get the nice jobs get setup in San Fran and other parts of Cali. The rest have gone to Kentucky. They say once you straighten out the healthcare bit, it's better living as your dollar goes further for the same types of services/products. Guess it also helps they're white.

If Christine Elliot wins the PC leadership, she's got my vote. Solid track record as a federal MP, widow of Jim Flaherty, a man respected by all parties for his fiscal conservatism and social consience.
What do they do that they can find jobs down there?
I'd love to emigrate to USA, but work is the issue for both me and my wife.
The ones in San Fran and Cali are tech geeks. Computer Engineers, Technical Business Analysts, Programmers. The ones that went to Kentucky are Mechanical Engineers, Quality control engineers for manufacturing.
Some found their jobs through head hunters, others applied to international companies that had offices here and once they were full time, started asking about being transferred to warmer states or other offices.
Few financial guys I know when to Europe working for Finance/Audit companies (think kpmg, ernst&young).

Not a bad choice, from what I've read about her.
What's the catch?

They are both stupid and greedy. Only care about their pockets but don't care about everyone else and where the money is supposed to come from.
I won't call that stupidity. Any business advisor would tell you that's a smart move.
Selfish & stealing? That's another story

I think it's more failure to see the big picture than it is stupidity.
Great they got their $0.50 bump per hour, but what's that? Had to move distribution to Tennessee because the union costs too much and we'd have to shutdown the whole business if we don't? "Not my problem pal, I need to get what's mine"

You might be right in a certain sense. But given 18/h; xx sicks days & paid vacation, just to move boxes around might be too sweet a deal to even give up

Considering Engineering grads are fighting for $17-$20/hr internships and they have half a decade of schooling under their belt, yeah, I'd be fighting for my job too.
Unions as they were initially designed, had their place. The problem became when they started running unions like the very businesses they were trying to protect the workers from. Then things blew up.

Don't get me wrong. I do agree with you to a certain extent

There is no 1 answer or 1 solution. The reason that it's such a touchy topic is because of wage stagnation over the past 30+ years, and how those that have been fortunate enough to work in a union environment have (or mostly) kept a lot of the things that people have lost in private industry years ago. Not to mention the increased popularity of hiring more and more contract based workers so you only pay a flat wage an no vacation, benefits or sick days.

Yep, it's hard to go permanent nowadays. Even I'm on temp. But the thing is if I quit my job today I can probably get one in 2-3dys.
