The Paris terrorists no more represent Islam than the IRA do Catholicism or the Westboro Church Baptists. They are violent twisted people who hide behind perverted religious dogma to justify their actions. Mocking the religion these people exploit isn't a blow for freedom of expression; it's a small-minded petty reaction that accomplishes nothing but perhaps alienate heretofor tolerant people. In recent years there seems to be a growing trend from self-styled "progressives" to denegrate religion in the vilest possible terms, claiming some sort of moral and intellectual superiority in doing so. It must be sad to have so little of value in one's own life that it's impossible to respect anyone who does or understand how they might be offended. Organized religion has a lot to answer for. Faith does not. By all means, question, analyze, and challenge all authority, including religion. But along with the freedom to do so comes the obligation to do so responsibly. Not for fear of reprisal or concern for not being politically correct but because we should at least try to elevate ourselves beyond the antics of 10 year-olds in the schoolyard.

So all the other muslims who believe that you should die if you leave the religion are cool, its just the ones who actually go ahead and do the killing are the bad ones?

I am friend with many Muslims, actually my best friend is Egyptian and believe none of them or their families will be killing anyone if they leave the religion, all the religions are based on the same ideologies with some variations, I have (don't ask me why) had to study the Jewish, orthodox christian and Muslim religion and you would be surprised on how similar they are.
I dislike these religion conversations, no one will ever change anyone else's mind so they are pointless.

I'm not surprised that they are similar. Similar sources if you go back. The differences are what happens when ppl decide to excentuate one aspect and it becomes the new dogma.

Im curious what other religion says that you should be killed if you leave it?

Agreed but also think that there are way too many generalizations, in north america there are these miss conceptions about all Muslims when in reality even from country to country they are very different, not to mention the differences in generations and other social economic reasons.
What it comes down to is people doing this kind of shit are fucking crazy, let's talk about them and deal with them and leave everyone else that didn't kill anyone or cheer for the killers alone.
You have your right to express yourself but when your expression is disrespectful to a group of people that has done nothing to you then you are being ignorant (when I say you I don't mean you specifically)
The problem with religon is humans. Then again that's the problem with everything on this planet. If someone doesn't like something they take their ball and start their own game. So lots of games happening. Then you get enough crazies together and the games go full whacko.

Edit (i screwed up the quote)
Or even worse, kill anyone that does not want to join your religion like the Christian Crusades?
So because another religion did it a thousand years ago its somehow ok today? That's a bit ridiculous no?
I'd like to think human beings are a little more intelligent today and can't understand why we still cradle crazy people who believe in these fairy tales..and it's one thing if you believe in santa, it doesn't hurt anyone. But a religion like islam? That is one twisted religion...

I disagree.
For the staunch believer, yes any comment is likely pointless.
For the person who is on the fence, or the person who is coming out of a situation of having religion forced on them, then such religious conversation might instill the confidence that allows them to question the dogma forced on them.
A Muslim kid told all his life that he should be offended at the depiction of Muhammad might go away to university, see one of these cartoons, and ask himself why exactly he should be so offended at some lines on the paper -- and might start questioning all the other nonsense that was forced on him over the years.
I was raised in a very Catholic household. We were forced with the threat of expulsion from the house to go to church every Sunday. Later when I got out of the home and was exposed to different ways of thinking and different beliefs I really started questioning the faith that was forced on me.
I went through a phase where I studied many of the religions too. Especially when I lived in South-East Asia and was surrounded by Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist culture, I payed attention and learned.
It is quite obvious that the Abrahamic religions are similar, as one would expect as they have the same source. The other religions, not so much.
Anyway... there is value in questioning and satirizing religion, but this Imam wants it to be illegal:
An Ottawa imam has denounced the terrorist attack on a Paris weekly newspaper that killed 12 people, but he says satirical cartoons of religious leaders should be illegal.
Imtiaz Ahmed, an imam with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said it should be against the law to publish cartoons that depict religious figures in a derogatory way.
“Of course we defend freedom of speech, but it has to be balanced. There has to be a limit. There has to be a code of conduct,” Ahmed said.
